ZAMBOANGA CITY โ€“ The Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) officially launched here today, November 21, the โ€œBangsamoro Knowledge Portal,โ€ an open-source platform for all socioeconomic and spatial data, information, and knowledge products related to the BARMM being managed by the BPDA.

During the launch simultaneously conducted with the 3rd BARMM Plannersโ€™ Congress, BPDA Director General Engr. Mohajirin T. Ali, MNSA invited everyone to visit the said portal that is mainly attached to BPDAโ€™s official website.

As home to socioeconomic and spatial data, information, and knowledge products from various national and international agencies and partners, the BPDA took the initiative of creating a centralized and accessible knowledge management system that supports data-driven planning and decision making.

โ€œFor us in the BPDA, our focus area is on development planning. Hence, our knowledge products are all part, related, and or supportive to development planning,โ€ DG Ali stressed.

The director general said in his message, the knowledge products are not solely made by the BPDA, emphasizing the knowledge products found in the portal are consolidated from the collaborative efforts of the Bangsamoro government, people, partners, and stakeholders.

Moreover, the portal covers sectoral data gathered primarily from development planning and the formulation of BARMMโ€™s essential documents facilitated by the BPDA, such as the 1st Bangsamoro Development Plan 2020-2022, 2nd Bangsamoro Development Plan 2023-2028, and the Bangsamoro Ecological Profile.  During the process, a whole-of-sector approach was adopted to ensure the inclusion of all sectors, namely: development administration, economic, social, infrastructure, and the peace, public order, safety and security.

DG Ali shared that series of workshops was conducted with the sectoral focal persons to clean, analyze, and visualize data aimed at making the data more understandable through summarized tables, graphs, and charts.

He also highlighted the pivotal role of the BPDA Map Team composed of mappers from the sectoral secretariats in creating maps to promote better understanding of data in terms of its location and distribution at regional, provincial, and municipal levels.

โ€œAs part of BPDA’s continual efforts to promote data appreciation, we capacitated this team (BPDA Map Team) on Geographic Information Systems among other spatial visualization tools,โ€ the director general said.

DG Ali further recognized the significant contributions of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and National Economic and Development Authority Region XII (NEDA XII) in sharing their best practices on knowledge management and map team operations during the BPDAโ€™s benchmarking activities at their respective offices. He also expressed his gratitude to National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) for allowing the BPDA to have an access to vital geophysical data that will aid in planning the regionโ€™s physical development.

Meanwhile, the BPDA informs the public that the Bangsamoro Knowledge Portal is now officially open and can be accessed via the URL, bpda.bangsamoro.gov.ph/knowledgeportal.
