COTABATO CITY โ€“ The Sub-committee on Regional Solid Waste Management (SCRSWM) held a special meeting on Monday, March 6, 2023, to discuss the series of capacity development activities that will further capacitate the SCRSWM technical working group (TWG), in preparation for the review and approval of the solid waste management (SWM) plans.

During the said meeting, the presiding chairperson and chief of MENRE-EMS Abdulmaoti Akmad presented the tentative schedule of this yearโ€™s activities including the capacity development for the SCRSWM-TWG and a benchmarking at the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD). He further stressed that capacitating the TWG is one of the priorities of the sub-committee to help them perform their mandates effectively and efficiently.

Furthermore, a training-workshop is scheduled in April 2023 which aims to capacitate the SCRSWM-TWG in reviewing and approving the SWM plans of the local government units (LGUs).  Through the sub-committee, these functions will be devolved to the Bangsamoro government from the National Solid Waste Management Council (NSWMC).

Moreover, the member ministries of the sub-committee expressed their commitment and support to the said initiatives.  These include the ministries of Environment Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE), Interior and Local Government (MILG), Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT), Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), Health (MOH), Human Settlements and Development (MHSD), Indigenous Peopleโ€™s Affairs (MIPA), Science and Technology (MOST), Office of the Chief Minister โ€“ Technical Management Services (OCM-TMS), and the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) as its technical secretariat.
