QUEZON CITY, Philippines โ€” Key officials and employees of the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority visited today, May 25, the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) to undergo an orientation of the agencyโ€™s best practices in policy research and analysis, capacity building, knowledge management, and information sharing.

In his message, BPDA Director General Engr. Mohajirin T. Ali said that BPDA wants to explore the possibility of having a PIDS counterpart in the BARMM, as the said agency is known as the primary socioeconomic policy think tank.

PIDS is a government-owned and controlled corporation of the Philippine National Government established in 1977. It is one of the attached agencies under the National Economic and Development Authority, the BPDAโ€™s counterpart at the national level.

Also, said agency conducts researches to help government institutions, thus responding to the demand for comprehensive studies that can guide and support policymaking and planning in the government.

During the orientation, PIDS Vice President Marife M. Ballesteros presented the structure and mandates of PIDS. She stressed that PIDS is mandated to provide rigorous analyses of socioeconomic problems and issues to support the formulation of national plans and policies; establish a continuing channel of communication among policymakers, planners, and researchers; and promote the utilization of research results.

Meanwhile, the agencyโ€™s three main programs which include policy research production, policy research dissemination, and policy research outreach activities were discussed during the orientation.

Sheila V. Siar, Department Manager III of the Research Information Department, shared the knowledge products and research outputs of the said agency.

Also present in this activity were Research Development and Special Projects Bureau (RDSPB) Director Kadil A. Sulaik and other key personnel of the BPDA.
