Nutrition Month is an annual campaign held every July to create greater awareness of the importance of nutrition among Filipinos. Through Presidential Decree 491 (1974) or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) is mandated to lead the nationwide campaign.
According to the NNC, the following are the key messages of the 49th Nutrition Month for individuals, families, and communities: Start children on a healthy diet with exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months and continue breastfeeding for up to two years and beyond with appropriate complementary feeding; eat various unprocessed or minimally processed foods, balanced across food groups while restricting highly processed food and drink products; have family and community food gardens as an additional source of food; and buy food from local farmers.
