COTABATO CITY — The Economic Development Committee (EDCom), a sectoral committee under the Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC), successfully held its first special meeting for calendar year 2022 on Thursday, March 11, at BPDA Conference Hall, Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.

The meeting highlights the discussion on the endorsement of the draft resolution on the proposed creation of sub-committee on Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines Linkages East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Economic Growth and Linkages for adoption of the BEDC and updates on the forthcoming 2022 BIMP-EAGA mini strategic planning meetings.

Melanie Indar, Director I of Planning and Policies Bureau, who represented BPDA Director General Engr. Mohajirin T. Ali, said that conducting this special meeting would continue the discussions in the previously conducted first regular committee meeting and technical working group (TWG) meeting on drafting and finalizing the resolutions for the creation of the sub-committee on BIMP-EAGA Economic Growth and Linkages.

In line with the structure of the said proposed sub-committee, the BPDA will chair the committee along with the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT) as the co-chair and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) as the vice chair.

Jherus F. de Guia, Senior Research Specialist from Regional Economic Affairs Staff of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Mindanao Regional Office-Davao, shared a brief information on pawnshops and money service businesses.  A follow-through meeting will be held via zoom with the chair and secretariat of the committee, and representative from the Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG) to discuss further and study the local enforcement of the registration of pawnshops and money service businesses within the local areas of the BARMM. Also, the BSP requested for their inclusion as additional regular member of the said committee.

Meanwhile, a training on data appreciation and refinement of the workshop outputs of the economic sector during the deepening assessment workshop of the 1st Bangsamoro Development Plan (1st BDP) held last March 2-4, 2022 was proposed to be conducted on April 5-8, 2022. (BPDA-BARMM)
