ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) provided technical assistance during the finalization of the proposed โ€˜Local Climate Change Action Planโ€™ for the five (5) municipalities in the province of Basilan held on March 22-24, 2022 at Grand Astoria Hotel, this city.

Gil M. Cambronero, BPDAโ€™s Chief of Peace, Public Order, Safety and Security Division (PPOSSD), joined the experts from the Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG), Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), and World Food Programme (WFP) to review, assess and approve the proposed LCCAP for the municipalities of Al-Barka, Maluso, Sumisip, Tuburan, and Tipo-Tipo.

Accordingly, the LCCAP was one of the plans mandated to local government units under RA 9729 or the Climate Change Act of 2009. It is patterned to National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP) to address the seven (7) strategic priorities on food security, water sufficiency, human security, environmental and ecological stability, sustainable energy, climate-smart industries and services, and knowledge and capacity development.

Furthermore, the said plan crosscuts into other strategic sectors such as gender and development, technological transfer, research and development, information, education and communication, and capacity building.

A panel of experts from Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Forecasting, and Environmental Management also extended their assistance in finalizing the LCCAP of the said 5 municipalities.

Meanwhile, the proposed LCCAP of the 5 municipalities will be included in the LCCAP of the Basilan Province.  (BPDA-BARMM)
