BPDA takes part in 31st National Statistics Month celebration

COTABATO CITY — The Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) took part on Friday, October 02, 2020, in the 31st National Statistics Month (NSM) via zoom video teleconference.

BPDA Director General Engr. Mohajirin T. Ali, chair of the Regional Statistics Committee, said they are eager to promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation on the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of our society.

“With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that the entire Bangsamoro region is facing at this time, statistical data shown and broadcasted everyday thru social media, newspapers, televisions and radios, provide useful and factual information. It helped us analyze the situation that also brings awareness to our fellow Bangsamoro,” Ali said.

Philippine Statistics Authority – BARMM OIC Regional Director Razulden Mangelen emphasized that coping up with the trend of technological changes and approaches are of big challenge to everyone amidst the pandemic situation.

“We must face to adopt the changing processes, flows, and progressions suitable in embracing the new normal of service delivery through adaptation of technological innovations and digital approach,” Mangelen stressed.

Moreover, Ali explained the usefulness of statistical data in support to good decision making of the Bangsamoro Government.

“It simply enables our government to use a scientific approach to investigate all available evidences in formulating policies that will be effective and achieve the desired outcome,” Ali explained.

Deputy Executive Secretary Abdullah Cusain relayed the message of the Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim.

“I’m extremely grateful that despite unprecedented challenges, the Philippine Statistics Authority remains true to its mandated commitment of public service,” a part of CM Ebrahim’s message.

Ebrahim recognized the efforts of PSA in upbringing quality and standards of statistics in the entire Bangsamoro region.

“Your work in the PSA truly matters as we continue to traverse in this rich bureaucracy and trying to haul the pandemic,” he added.

Meanwhile, the PSA conducted its 1st NSM Online Quiz participated by different ministries, agencies and offices during the opening ceremony.

Jherus de Guia from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in Cotabato City won the first place, Mohammad Usop Sugadol for the second place and Mary Lovella Lastimosa for the third place, both from the office of BPDA. The winners have received their tokens and prizes sent by a PSA representative to their respective offices.

Moreover, the activity was organized by the Philippine Statistical System (PhilSys), spearheaded by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

The theme for this year’s celebration is, “Bridging Digital Gap: Making Information Available to All.” Every October of the year, National Statistics Month is being celebrated pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647.
