PARANG, Maguindanao del Norte โ€“ As part of the trainersโ€™ training on basic concepts and principles of the feasibility study, select personnel of the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) who are members of the Technical Review Committee on Feasibility Studies/Research Studies (TRC FS/RS) conducted a two-day community visit and data gathering in Parang, Maguindanao and its four barangays held on May 15-16, 2023.

Said visit aimed to gather data for the feasibility study on the upgrading of the water system project in the said town, as well as applying the knowledge acquired during the five-day trainersโ€™ training last May 8-12, 2023.

Prior to their visit, the participants were clustered into five groups to gather data from the local government unit (LGU) of Parang and its four barangays, namely: Nituan, Sarmiento, Manion, and Polloc.

The townโ€™s key officials and employees were interviewed by the participants on the first day of their visit to discuss matters related to history, water sources, and the proposed expansion of the water system in the said town.

In his message, Mayor Cahar P. Ibay thanked the Bangsamoro government for choosing Parang as one of the recipients of high-impact projects in the region.

Meanwhile, a household survey in this townโ€™s four barangays was conducted on the second day of their visit. A stratified random sampling was conducted to determine which households will be interviewed by the participants, specifically regarding their expenditures and access to water.

Aimed at determining the challenges faced by communities in accessing potable, safe, and reliable water supply, a focus group discussion (FGD) was held with some members of the communities, which include representatives from the youth, women, farmers, fisherfolks, and enterprises.

Moreover, this series of activities aimed to capacitate the TRC FS/RS and other technical staff of the BPDA in reviewing, assessing, and providing technical inputs during the deliberation process of the proposed feasibility and research studies in the BARMM.

A manual is set to be developed that will serve as a guide for the committee in preparing feasibility and research studies.
