This yearโ€™s Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It is a period when all Muslims around the world strive to grow morally and spiritually, and build stronger relationship with the Almighty Allah (SWT) through fasting, the fourth in the five pillars of Islam.

The essence of fasting is to build morality by enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong among Muslims. This, I think, is the aspect where, we, the Bangsamoro people, fail to sustain, as observed every year. After Ramadan, some of us are gradually returning back to their previous bad habits, which we have voluntarily abandoned. Hence, I encourage everyone to be mindful of the path you are taking and always choose to become a better Muslim โ€“ the one who exemplifies righteous deeds to others.

This year, despite the enormous challenges brought about by COVID-19 pandemic, we have performed our religious obligations, which are aimed to enhance individual morality as foundation of moral governance. With this, I sincerely hope that we will hold what we have gained from the sacrifices and good deeds we have done during Ramadan.

May the Almighty Allah (SWT) continue to bring us good health, protect us from all sorts of calamities and disasters, and open the doors of happiness and prosperity for every Bangsamoro.

I wish you and your family a very joyful and peaceful Eid al-Fitr!
