COTABATO CITY —- Sub-Committee on Regional Solid Waste Management (SCRSWM), the policy-making body on solid waste management in the Bangsamoro region chaired by the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE) and vice chaired by the Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG) conducted its second regular meeting for calendar year 2022 today, July 4 at the BPDA Conference Hall 2, Bangsamoro Government Center, this city.
Said meeting aimed to discuss the status of BARMM LGU’s compliance with RA 9003, overview of Solid Waste Management Plan and process flow of approval, timeline of activities, and the capacity development for SCRSWM technical working group (TWG).
The capacity development will orient the SCRSWM-TWG on the salient features of RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 to strengthen its implementation in the Bangsamoro region.
Further, preparations for the 3-day capacity development to be conducted on July 12-14 were discussed and finalized by its offcials and members.
SCRSWM is a sub-com under the Regional Land Use Committee (RLUC), duly approved by the Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC) last September 3, 2021.
Meanwhile, among the duties and functions of the SCRSWM also include the preparation of a Bangsamoro Solid Waste Management Framework; develop a format for the LGU Solid Waste Management Plan in line with the regional framework; assist the LGUs in formulating their Local Solid Waste Management Plans and review, monitor, and assess these plans; and approve Solid Waste Management Plans of the provinces, cities, and municipalities in the Bangsamoro region.
