GENERAL SANTOS CITY โ€“ The Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA), in partnership with the European Union in the Philippines through the SUBATRA Programme, led a three-day inter-agency training on basic Geographic Information System (GIS) held in General Santos City on May 30 until June 1, 2023.

At least 30 personnel from various ministries, offices, and agencies of the Bangsamoro Government were equipped with basic GIS knowledge and skills, enabling them to generate, collate, and analyze spatial data.

Said training will aid the Bangsamoro government in evidence-based planning and decision-making, which are crucial in achieving the Chief Minister’s 12-Point Priority Agenda and the goals of the 2nd Bangsamoro Development Plan (BDP) 2023-2028.

The technical staff of BPDAโ€™s Monitoring and Evaluation Division (MED), headed by Chief Nomaire P. Mustapha, presented the โ€˜Basic Monitoring and Evaluationโ€™ to enlighten the participants on the significant role of the Regional Project Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (RPMEC), a special committee under the Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC), in the development of the Bangsamoro region.

Further, they also imparted their knowledge in using the Kobo Toolbox, an application used for data gathering and crafting spatial maps.

Among the participants were personnel from the Office of the Chief Minister (OCM), the Office of the Senior Minister (OSM), the Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO), the Bangsamoro Pilgrimage Authority (BPA), the Ministry of Finance and Budget and Management (MFBM), the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), the Technical Management Services of the OCM (TMS-OCM), the Office for Other Bangsamoro Communities (OOBC), the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS), and the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC).

Moreover, this training was co-facilitated by Al-wahab Harun, a consultant of the SUBATRA Programme.
