COTABATO CITY — Bearing the theme โ€œStrengthening BARMM through the lessons of the past and promises of the futureโ€, the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) commemorated the second year of the Bangsamoro History Month.

The annual commemoration is in line with Proclamation No. 001, series of 2021, issued by Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim, declaring every March of the year as โ€œBangsamoro History Month.

โ€One of the notable events during the Bangsamoro History Month is the commemoration of Jabidah Massacre.

Accordingly, Jabidah Massacre was an infamous incident in the Island of Corregidor last March 18, 1968 in which it took the lives of Moro recruits (Tausug and Sama) who reportedly protested not to continue their training and requested to return homes after discovering the covert intent of the operation. This massive killing triggered the Bangsamoro people to unite against oppression and assertion to their right to self-determination.

Furthermore, as member of the Peace Public Order Safety and Security Committee (PPOSSCom) and the technical working group (TWG) for the Commemoration of the Bangsamoro History Month, the BPDA participated various activities in commemorating this event.

Engr. Kadil A. Sulaik, Director I of BPDAโ€™s Research Development and Special Projects Bureau (RDSPB), visited the Mindanao Garden of Peace in Corregidor Island, Cavite, together with the other BARMM officials and employees led by Hussein P. Muรฑoz, Minister of the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS).

โ€œThe BARMM Government and the entire Bangsamoro will continue to commemorate, and enliven the sacrifices of the Bangsamoro martyrs,โ€ Munoz said.

The commemoration of the Jabidah Massacre is an initiative towards healing the past, reconciliation, and unity of all the people in the country.

Meanwhile, Ayesha Aeda Masbud of Peace, Public Order, Safety and Security Division (PPOSSD) represented the BPDA and competed with other 17 participants during the โ€œTagisan ng Talino: An Inter-Agency Bangsamoro History Quiz Beeโ€ conducted by the MPOS and BYC.

To culminate the Bangsamoro History Month celebration, the PPOSSD will conduct an Inter Division Quiz Bee on March 31, 2022 to be participated by the employees of the BPDA. (BPDA-BARMM)
